Building a Fence in Forsyth County: HOAs, Property Lines, and Georgia 811

Start with your HOA. Many neighborhoods around Cumming, Suwanee, and Alpharetta limit fence height, material, color, and how far forward the fence can come toward the street. Most require approval before the build. Pull your covenants and the application form early, because approval can take a few weeks.

Next, confirm the property line. Your plat or survey shows where your lot ends. Building a few inches onto a neighbor's property creates problems when either house sells, so if the corner pins are missing or the line is unclear, a surveyor is money well spent.

Then call before you dig. Georgia law requires a Georgia 811 locate request before any digging, and utilities mark their lines within a few business days. Post holes are exactly the kind of digging that finds gas, power, and fiber lines the hard way.

When we quote your fence, we'll talk through all three and give you the fence details your HOA application asks for, including height, material, style, and a sketch of the layout on your lot.
